Portable Snack Options for People with Braces

When you are having orthodontic treatment done, you will have to make a few adjustments to your lifestyle including cutting out a list of foods you can't eat. Changes like this can make it hard to pack a lunch for school or work. Today, our orthodontists at SmileTown Orthodontics Braces & Invisalign share some fun lunch snack ideas that you can easily take with you on the go.

Soft Veggies

There are lots of soft vegetables that can make delicious and nutritious snacks such as tomatoes, peppers, and most cooked vegetables. Generally, they are easy to prepare and store in containers or baggies to bring with you on a busy day at work or school. Another positive of having veggies for your snack is that they are packed with vitamins and minerals that can help keep your body (and teeth) strong and healthy.

Soft Fruits

There is a variety of soft fruits available that are both refreshing and sweet. Fruits such as these have lots of fiber in them that can help keep your hunger satisfied in between meals. The only preparations that are needed is to cut them up at the beginning of the week, portion them out, and store them in the fridge with plastic baggies or Tupperware containers.

Dairy

Soft cheeses, yogurt, and pudding are easy on your braces, taste amazing, and are packed with lots of calcium! Usually, these snack options are easy to take with you however, they do need to stay cool.

Soft Meats

Meatballs, deli meats, and soft-cooked meats such as chicken are high in protein and are usually easy to chew with braces. Put them on a sandwich or cook them in a large batch of sauce to eat with pasta, potatoes, and veggies throughout the week.

Vegetable Chips or Thin Crackers

You will discover lots of healthy crackers and veggie chip options available at your local grocery store. Remember to select options that are low in sodium if you can and nothing that is too hard or crunchy. Enjoy these foods with your soft cheeses and fruit for a simple and delicious lunch!
