"There's an app for that" has become a phrase we're all familiar with. There are even some for dental health. This list of kid-friendly oral health apps should get your child or teen more interested in dental health.
Our kids and teens are digital natives, so it makes sense that they go online to engage in their interests. If it's been a struggle to get your child to be disciplined and consistent with their oral health, there are some dental-health related apps out there that may be able to help. Here are some we recommend:
Turn toothbrushing into an adventure! Created by the Partnership for Health Mouths Healthy Lives and the Ad Council, this app will see your child embark on a mission to battle an evil sorceress to save the kingdom. When your little one brushes their teeth for two minutes, they "scrub" away the sorceress's spell that was cast on the kingdom's residents, which include Little Red Riding Hood. ToothSavers is available for free on Apple's App Store.
If your kid loves Disney movies, they'll be excited to brush with Disney characters with this app from Oral B. Brush along with a Disney character that reveals clues as part of a game. Your child can also collect stickers. This app can also be used by kids at heart. Disney Magic Timer is available for free on Apple's App Store and Google Play.
Whether your teen is brushing before school or at the end of a long day, it can be difficult for many to tell when it's actually been two minutes. Targeted to older adults and teens, Brush DJ solves this problem by randomly selecting a song from their playlist to entertain kids while they brush, making the task seem less tedious. Kids can also set custom reminders if they need help remembering to brush twice daily, visit the dentist and more. Brush DJ is available for free on Apple's App Store and Google Play.
This interactive two-minute timer works like a workout app. Aim for each part of your mouth and track progress over time. Brushout is available for free on Apple's App Store.
